Frequently Asked Questions

When is registration?

Online registration begins mid-March each year closes in July. Space is limited and is based on a first-come, first-served basis, so register early to guarantee a spot.

Is the DFL for Dublin city school residents only?

The DFL will allow participants from school districts other than Dublin on a space available basis. Our primary mission is to serve the Dublin school district youths. If space is available, we will accept participants from other school districts. The registrar will maintain a first-come, first-served waiting list, if space is not available.

When and what are the Spring Camps?

The Spring Camps are opportunities to introduce some of the fundamentals and non-contact practice drills of football. The mini-camps are conducted by the Dublin High School coaches at their respective high schools and usually will include some of the high school players. These camps are offered at no charge by the DFL and conclude on Saturday with a Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition and a Trench Competition with trophies awarded to the top event winners. Participants can wear shorts, t-shirts (or sweats) and cleats, but they should dress for the weather. You can attend one event or all three. Check the events link on the DFL website home page for the exact dates, times, and locations.

When and what are evaluations/conditioning?

The evaluations give the DFL the opportunity to rate each participant based on a basic set of criteria. This permits the DFL to separate the players for the "blind draft" and create a more balanced set of teams and leagues. All new players and players moving from one league to another should attend, and all DFL players are highly encouraged to attend. These two nights start the process for those who have not been conditioning over the summer and are very important for Mini, Junior and Senior league players.

Flag league players can participate, however, are not evaluated. Participants can wear shorts, t-shirts (or sweats) and cleats, but they should dress for the weather. Players are encouraged to attend both nights, if possible. Check the events link on the DFL website home page for the exact dates, times, and locations.

How are teams assigned?

All players moving from one league to the next (i.e., Flag to Mini, Mini to Junior, Junior to Senior) along with new players to the DFL, will be rated as an A, B, C, Lineman or Back during the Player Evaluations and placed in the draft. All kids over the weight limit will be evenly distributed to all teams. Teams with returning players will not select players from the draft until all teams have an equal number of players. A player is determined to be a Lineman or Back based on the weight restrictions for each league. In the Junior League, players weighing more than 95 pounds are considered Linemen. In the Senior League, players weighing more than 120 pounds are considered Linemen. Players remaining in the same league are allowed to return to the same team on which they played in the prior year, if they so desire. Please make note on your registration form of your desire to remain on the same team; or, enter the draft, if you wish to participate on a different team. This option applies only to players remaining in the same league (i.e. Flag to Flag, Mini to Mini, Jr. to Jr. and Sr. to Sr.).

How are head coaches assigned?

Head coaches are volunteers from the community. The DFL Board of Directors must vote and approve each coach. USA Football certification and Concussion training coarse.

What does the league provide with the registration fee and what do you still need to purchase?

The DFL registration fee pays for the use of quality helmets and shoulder pads, and an official game jersey that each player keeps. Each helmet is inspected every year, reconditioned to DFL specifications or replaced with a new helmet. Shoulder pads are also inspected and replaced as needed. In any case, your child will receive the highest quality equipment available. The game jerseys are color coordinated to match the color of your team and will last for many years. Each player is responsible for providing football pants (with hip, tail, thigh, and knee pads), practice shirt/jersey, colored mouth guard, and football cleats. Cleats must be rubber molded cleats. Screw-in style cleats are not permissible for these leagues. Pants should fit tight on child's legs.

When and where is equipment distribution?

The league will announce location and time for equipment pick up. Check the events link on the DFL website home page for the exact date, time, and location.

When and where is practice?

Practice times and locations will change to accommodate the change in season and field availability. A Practice Schedule will be posted in advance for your convenience and planning. Practice schedules are determined by the coaches. DFL planned schedules are available on the Practice Info page.

When and where are games played?

Games begin approximately the first week of September and run through the last Sunday of October, but could run until the first Sunday in November to accommodate a larger number of teams than field space permits. The number of games is dependent on the number of teams / number of players in the league; the last several years, teams have played eight games. Games are played at the four Dublin City middle schools. Some games may be played at neighboring comunities. Game location and schedules will be distributed to head coaches in August.

What is Scrimmage Day?

Scrimmage Day is on a Saturday in late August and is a full dress uniform scrimmage day and picture day. Team photos are taken and organized scrimmages are scheduled against two different teams. Pictures and scrimmages are scheduled throughout the day from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Check the events link on the DFL website home page for the exact date.

When is picture day?

Picture day is held on the same day as scrimmage day. Check the events link on the DFL website home page for the exact date.
